About Me

Hi, I’m Miko. I like to climb things.

Welcome to my online portfolio! Please use the links at the top to find out more about what I do, or have done. Or, you can read on for some general information.

First, the basics. I am half Japanese American, half French Canadian, but I only speak English. (えーと、私は日本語がちょっと話せます。私の日本語が失礼ですからすみません。) I grew up all over the United States and I am an only child. My eyes are kind of brownish and so is my hair. But the latter usually has streaks of blue or pink in it.

I love food but I’m also a very active person so I try not to overdo the calories. I’m fascinated by cooking shows and different cuisines, but still a fairly poor chef. Every other year I try to host an Iron Chef tournament among friends and co-workers, so watch out if you’re local!

I think I have bad taste in music. I mean, I like the really good stuff, like Queen and Mika, but I also listen to a lot of repetitive pop. I love eighties music and certain boy band songs. I can be accused of listening to the same song over and over for hours; it helps me brainstorm. And of course, I need hip hop and salsa music for dancing!

I’m really into horror. I love psychological stuff, and ambiguous endings. Let’s talk found footage movies sometime. On the other hand, I can name most of the actors who perform with the Warblers on Glee. When I need to work on a project really hard, I turn to BBC Pride and Prejudice, Shark Week, and Reality Contest shows.

Anime and manga have been a huge influence for me. Especially these series: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Princess Tutu, Dragonball Z, Ranma 1/2, Slayers, and Ouran High School Host Club. The anime convention community has given me some great opportunities to be creative.

Games are my life. My father raised me on PC adventure titles: the classic Sierra games, Amiga stuff, MUDs, and of course NES and SNES. Later, I fell in love with many amazing games, with the top of my list being Xenogears, Persona 3, Advance Wars, Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy Tactics. I read a LOT of game design books and watch a lot of Let’s Plays. (Don’t know what a Let’s Play is? If you love games, you should!) I’ve been designing and dreaming of games in one way or another since I was about seventeen. I care very deeply about games that make you feel something, which doesn’t necessarily mean they are fun to play. Yes, I’m one of those.

That’s the brief introduction. If you want to know more, why not Ask me on Tumblr? I love Tumblr. Or follow me on Twitter! And there’s always email.Or you could move on to the rest of the website now. Have fun!
